Research Opportunities

Funded Research Positions

PhD student – 1 position

Join a dynamic and interdisciplinary project dealing with monitoring, modeling, and visualization of damage in historic structures. We will use advanced finite element modeling to understand deterioration as a function of changing loading conditions. The FE models will be validated from field and lab data. We are looking to integrate point cloud data into finite element models.

Start: Fall 2025

Requirements:

  • MS degree

Desired expertise areas:

  • FEM experience (prefer ABAQUS)
    • FE modeling brittle materials including concrete or/and masonry
    • Wind and freeze/thaw loading
    • Modal analysis of structures
  • Coding skills

MS student – 1 position

Join a dynamic and interdisciplinary project dealing with monitoring, modeling, and visualization of damage in historic structures. We will use detailed point cloud scans of historic structures to create digital walkthroughs, record and monitor the current conditions, and integrate scans into finite element models.

Start: Fall 2025

Requirements:

  • BS degree with specialty in structural or construction engineering

Desired expertise areas:

  • Experience with BIM, LiDAR, and point clouds
  • Revit
